Today I am having a friend of mine share a little of her experience with Public school as her boys are now in high school. Her name is Juliette and she is really that nice, which I couldn't believe until I got to know her one long road trip with a youth group to Colorado. She's shared a lot of wisdom throughout the years, but God knew I would need her encouragement especially in this season of my life. Hope you are encouraged too. Thanks for reading!
When the Lord called our family to public school, our oldest was in Kindergarten, it was a huge step of faith for my husband and I. Both of us felt the calling to raise our boys up to be warriors for Christ in this dark world. Jesus has been so very faithful in this calling to supply us with what we need at each stage. The lifeline that He has provided is a group of other like minded Moms to pray with on a regular basis. The first group was a Mom’s In Touch prayer group. I now pray with a group of Mom’s whose kid’s attend Young Life in our city. What a joy and comfort to come together once a week and pray over the concerns of our school, the teachers and staff, the safety of the school and our individual children and their particular needs of the week. These groups have ended up getting to know most of the Christian teachers at the school and we gather with them and pray every few months together. The mutual encouragement between the Christian moms and teachers has been so very special and such an affirmation from the Lord that He strategically puts His army together to further His Kingdom!
We have seen the Lord do amazing things and open so many doors to spread His love and His gospel. Several years in a row, when our children were in elementary school, they had the opportunity to share a “holiday” tradition with the class. So, we would have a “Birthday Party for Jesus” in the classroom and read the Christmas story from Luke 2 to the entire classroom and share why Jesus came to this earth so many years ago. We would bring nativity sets for the kids to play with and have a wonderful celebration. I will never forget a little girl from Japan saying, “Who is Jesus? I have never heard that name before!”. What a joy it was to tell her!
Another highlight in our prayer group, that we continue to this day as our kids are in high school is “prayer walking” the school. It is such a comfort to know that as we walk and pray the perimeter of the school and all throughout the inside, that we ask the Lord to send His mighty protection over all who reside in the school day in and day out. This year, we gathered and prayer walked the perimeter of the school on the first day of school. We had the opportunity to prayer walk the high school last year with a group of students that are in a Bible Club that meets after school. It was wonderful having Mom’s and students join in prayer together over the school.
There has been a very special love that has grown the Mom’s together as we have prayed so many years together over these kids. We have developed such a love for each other and all of the kids. There have been many challenges, but how it strengthens us to face them together and to go before the Lord of the universe and lay the concerns before Him together. Although that there are circumstances that we would like our kids not to be exposed to, unfortunately it is the real world. Sooner or later, our kids will have to face these issues and circumstances in our world. My husband and I prefer that they face these things while they are still under our roof and our care, so that we might walk them through the difficulties and show them how to seek God for His wisdom and truth and deal with it all seeking Him. Christ is faithful to lead and guide us through each circumstance and relationship!
